The Trusts are delighted to announce that the now customary New Year event will be held on 8th January 2022 at the Arts and Crafts tour de force which is Wightwick Manor, Bridgnorth Road, Wolverhampton WV6 8BN.
Built to designs by Liverpool architect Edward Ould between 1887 and 1893 for the Mander family, the house was donated to The National Trust in 1937. It contains a nationally important collection of works by the greatest artists of the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts movements but, on this occasion, we will be looking at the building rather than the contents.
In view of Covid-19, The National Trust has had to put on hold all but the most essential repairs at all of its properties across the country. Wightwick Manor is no exception and an extensive backlog of works has accumulated.
We will meet at the Manor at 12.30 pm and, after a buffet lunch of sandwiches, welsh rarebit bites, sausage rolls, salad, a selection of cakes and bakes and tea or coffee, we will have a “behind the scenes” guide by the supervising architects to look at some of the problems which have arisen and hopefully learn about some of the solutions.
For non-members of the National Trust, standard admission charges will apply, payable direct to The National Trust on arrival. Members should show their membership cards on arrival for free admission.
The full cost of the buffet and presentation/tour will be £12.50 for members and £15 for non-members (not inclusive of Eventbrite fees). Please purchase your tickets at the Eventbrite link.
